FROM NRCAT:
Earlier this week we shared wonderful news – the Senate had passed H.R. 2082 (the Intelligence Authorization Conference Report) with Section 327, the anti-torture provision, intact. This great victory was due in part to the efforts of your organizations.
Unfortunately, however, the battle is not yet over. The President has already said that he plans to veto the bill rather than sign it into law. If he does so, he will repudiate the will of both houses of Congress and of the American people. Worse, he will keep us on an immoral and harmful path.
We know the President is strongly committed to the CIA interrogation program and that he is very likely to veto this bill. But, we think he should know that people of faith think what he’s doing is wrong. Call the White House at 202-456-1111, or to email the President at comments@whitehouse.gov to express their support for H.R. 2082. Tell the President that as people of faith we do not support the CIA interrogation program, that the United States cannot win the war on terror by abandoning the values that made us great, and that he can help return us to those values by signing H.R. 2082.
Sincerely,
Linda Gustitus, President, National Religious Campaign Against Torture
Richard Killmer, Executive Director, National Religious Campaign Against Torture
